Alaska the Great Frontier, just don't talk about Alaska to a
Texan,
Texans still think Texas is the biggest state. Alaska, what can I
say about the only state where it's legal to grow Marijuana? Other then, Pass the Munchies?

Ok, I'm finally in a city, I spent the first day, Sunday exploring part of the town, it's a Big Town! The bad part of the story is for the guys, there's a heck of a lot more guys here then gals, the ratio is pretty bad.

OK, Number one spot in Anchorage is Humpy's for their Octoberfest special! Over on 6th street, Humpy's is a Microbrewery. For October they are providing an Octoberfest special on Sundays. For 35 dollars you get 6 beers and a six course meal! With Bread and Butter and a German ohmpa band or something. It was great and the food was great too! We had Oyster stew in sour dough bowls, a flaky pastry stuffed with meat on sauerkraut. For Course number 3 it was cabbage rolls stuffed with mushrooms and meat on a bed of sauerkraut. # four was pork loin stuffed apricots and a side of a potato pancake, 5 was Chicken fricassee on noodles with a mushroom gravy and number 6 was a pastry stuffed with apples with a blueberry and cheese topping. hhhmmm hmmm.
Ok, but remember, Humpy's for Octoberfest, there's other number one's here woo hoo.
First, there's my buddy Stanley who runs the Midnight Express Limo service at 907-272-5466, he's great, quite a number of vehicles to suit your Limo needs. So give ole Stan a call and tell him that Grilldog from San Diego sent ya.
Next is The Moose's Tooth. The Moose's Tooth just isn't a pizza house, it is THE Pizza place. All kinds of wonderful pizza made by scratch, they even make their own dough there! No delivery, you have to pick up or eat there. Plus it's a Micro Brewery with dozens of beers, even drawn beers! woof woof... Here's some examples of their Pizza, 5 cheese pizza with Mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, Gruyere, and Gorgonzola, all fresh... Or Sundried Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Feta, Artichoke Hearts, Mozzarella, Provolone and Pesto yum yum...Or their wild Mushroom with portabella, and crimini mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, Mozzarella, provolone and their special sauce. Yum Yum
Oh, and of course, in the Creme de la Creme category is the Great Alaskan Bush Company, good beer and cheer!
Hurrying to catch all I could before jet lag sat in, I hung out the first night in the lounge across the street from the motel, the Kings'X Lounge, on Fifth, way down fifth around the 1100 block.. (nothing subliminal about that name is there!) Pretty kewl place. No sales tax, prices are a little higher here, but not bad. The service was very good, the routine is cash bar, you have an empty, the bartendress sees the glass, takes the money and you get more beer. Theresa just loves to take your money, be sure to ask here about her tattoos. One is a scorpion and the other is the Alaskan state flower (if your lucky, she'll show you them Woof!!!) However, number one Bartendress Goes to Linda Lew of San's Whammy. San's Whammy is a awesome band here in Anchorage so if you of them playing someplace, go check it out and tell Linda Grilldog Sent ya! However, if you don't know what a cat of nine tails is don't ask LOL
For a delicious fresh salmon or halibut there's the Phyllis's Cafe and Salmon Bake on D street by the down town mall. The fresh salmon fillet with a lemon, butter, ground pepper, Worchester, garlic and white wine sauce was very nice. However, 4.25 for 1 small glass of Budweiser beer was beyond Ole Grilldog's view of frequenting this establishment again. But the food was very good, so paws up for the food and the ole Hind leg salute for the prices.
Momma O's, with all the porno shows, topless bars, dancers, escort services, book stores, video stores, etc. here in Anchorage, I had no clue what this place was. Over on Spinard just across from Chilkoot Charlie's, it was just your road side fish shop. You can get grilled or steamed halibut with some fries or rice and a trip the salad bar (trust me, one look at the salad bar and you knew it wasn't a trip you'd want to take). No rating on this one, just a road side fish counter type place.
Now then there's Chilkoot Charlie's, that's a Must see on anyone's trip to Anchorage. It's huge and shaped like an old wooden saloon. Ton's of variety of beers and at 1 to 1.50 per glass...woo hoo...Ole Grilldog stopped in to watch Monday night Football, and even met some Miller Lite girls woo hoo, now there's certainly 4 paws and a tail up here!
10th and M, well, it's on 10th and M, and there's one on Muldoon, it's not a restaurant or girly show (that's 10th and S&M), it's a fish market, pretty much salmon, king crab and halibut and Lox. Smoked or frozen or fresh, you can buy it there, or they'll pack it and ship it for ya! I got some red salmon and some King Salmon Lox, now I have to get some Bagels and cream cheese, a beef steak tomato and some red onions and capers, (ok, I know some caviar would top it off just right, but Grilldog isn't greedy, hehe woof)...Now that's a breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack!
The Fed Ex saved my butt here in Anchorage, when I needed something to get out for next day delivery, they showed up at Kings'x for me (I didn't have to go looking for them) and delivered the package next morning by 10:30 woof, 4 paws up and a tail for Fed Ex!!!
Up near the Elmendorf Base Hospital is a strip of road...Hubbard street. That's where Grilldog runs for lunch every day, trying to sniff something up. Of course I hit Pizza Hut for their buffet one day...standard Pizza Hut Buffet. There's a Thai restaurant that is really good Thai, better then a lot of places in San Diego. Plus I tried yet another Mexican restaurant, it was better then in Kansas, but that's about all I can say. Woof.
One interesting note about hanging out at bars here in Anchorage is that they don't serve food, they are just your old fashioned watering holes. If your hungry the gals will order take out for you (course you have to pay). Therefore, I've had quite a variety of quickies here in Alaska (oh come on, you know what I mean!). I've had buffalo wings (from Wings and Things and some local place on 5th next to Kings'X and Domino's. wings is wings.
Mongolian BBQ is BIG here in Anchorage. The place that advertises on the TV, Twin Dragon found old Grilldog sniffing their fare! Actually, they have a nice place, however, 10$ for the little bit of options on the bbq tray, left Grilldoggies tail hung low. The Chinese side looked much better. However, for 13$ you can have both the Mongolian BBQ and the Chinese side, but you'd have to be pretty hungry. On a good note the food was all fresh and prepared from scratch. So two paws up for the Twin Dragon.
Mongolian BBQ #2 well, over by about 26 and Spinale or something like that is another Mongolian BBQ that is better then the Twin Dragon. Well, I think so. Yum Yum a couple paws up from Grilldog.
Now just by chance I was wandering by the Rice Bowl on 6th street. It is actually, one of Anchorages oldest restaurants and pretty modernized. It was quite busy, great food, good service and moderately priced! A must visit again on Grilldog's Dinning menu.
With all my wanderings I haven't stopped in a Hooters once, well for lunch today, off to Hooters for wings and beer. yum yum. Actually, the Hooters in Anchorage, is the best one I've ever been in and I've been in quite a few from the East Coast to the West Coast. They're wings were bigger and they served a nice portion of Blue cheese and celery sticks with the wings at no extra cost, this is the first time I've had that happen in a Hooters!

Le Mex is a Mexican restaurant, it's ok, but I'm spoiled down here in San Diego!
OK, where too next? Back to San Diego for a week and then, Washington D.C. well Clinton Md. really.
