Corpus Christi, Texas!!!
Yeaa Haaa

After two weeks in Wichita Falls...I need the Beach!!!

I was stuck in the Dallas FtWorth Airport...it is NOT a five star hotel, the plastic chairs i.e. sleeping arrangements were not enjoyable.

The Grilldog report:

First...Let me say that as far as my trip from Wichita Falls, TX., to Corpus Christi, TX, American Airlines Sucks... First, there are only two airlines that fly in and out of Wichita Falls...American and another...First, because of a storm front, AA canceled all flights into and out of Wichita Falls...The clerk at AA assured us all that flights were going out of our connection in Dallas/FtWorth.  Ok, No need to reschedule we were assured.  So they herded us into a bus like a bunch of cattle ready for the slaughter.  And away we left towards Dallas in torrential rains, with "Tex" at the wheel driving at an average cruising speed of 90mph, visibility zero.  Upon arrival at Dallas we were informed that all flights had been cancelled earlier in the day...So the clerk in Wichita Falls was either an ill informed SOB, a Lazy SOB or a lying SOB (ok, so I have a attitude about this).  Because 9000 people were stranded (hey, you don't believe me check the Dallas headlines, we hit the papers) and I was one of the last to arrive and after a 2 hour wait in line, I was informed of how lucky I was to stay in the airport lobby over night woo hoo...

The staff in the American Airlines Terminals that night were both curt and nasty. I'm sorry, I have to sleep on the floor, can you at least answer a question? No, well have a nice night...  About midnight they tossed us food, and I mean they tossed us food.  They had those blue bags with sandwiches in them that no one ate on the last plane that flew.  A guy on a buggy drove down the aisle and just tossed them to us like we were animals at the zoo.  At least my buddies at the wine bar were around till about 1am  to offer a laugh and a drink or two.

The next day, the only flight to Corpus was at 2:15 so I was stuck in the airport all day. They finally boarded the flight to Corpus at 2:45...wait!!! Wasn't the flight supposed to leave at 2:15.  Well, they loaded us into busses (what's with AA and busses?) and took us to another part of the airport to our rubber band propelled plane.  Well, it had a flat tire (didn't they notice it was flat before?) and they took us back to the waiting lounge (ah, my little home away from home, ahh, here's my spot...notice how the carpet has etched in it the non mistaken shape of my buttocks from the long hours of sitting here).  Needless to say we did not get to Corpus till about 6PM, due to all the delays...I was hurting.

OK FOOD REPORT..

The Water Street Oyster Bar is great.  I had the AmberJack blackened (3 times in two weeks) with a big Texas Baked potato, a dozen oysters and all kinds of goodies.  The only complaint is that they were pushing this crawdad gumbo cream sauce that was supposed to go with the fish.  Well, it was ok, but had no taste.  And the fish was excellent by itself. Plus, for happy hour, a dozen oysters for 3 dollars woo hoo!!! I'm there.

Sunday, I had a lady companion, to escort to Landry's a floating boat restaurant just off of The Coast Road.  I would say I paid 20%  more then the food was worth and that's a nice assumption...Don't waste your time.

I ate lunch at Jalisco's or something down by the NAS Navy base, the Tex Mex food was fair but you can't beat the happy hour prices if your in that side of town.  Oh, and Tex Mex, Fawn, isn't Mexican! Sorry, no fresh tortilla's or Carne anything.

Later I went to a club called Booters, Great Country Music and Dancing and on Tuesday nights till 11pm beers a buck...God, if I lived here I'd be in a heap of trouble!

Plus right down town at the docks the boat people sell fresh shrimp off their boats and it's nice fresh shrimp! woo hoo.  I love this town!

For Lunch one day the gang went to an all you can eat Chinese buffet....and as in Wichita Falls, you don't go to Texas to eat Chinese food!

On Thursday for Lunch we went to George's woo hoo, I like that name... the food was ok, the atmosphere ok, it was a ok place...They market that they make their own sauces and salad dressings and stuff...well, it's not grilldog's quality and quite bland!

Thursday night I went to Crawdaddy's downtown just behind the Ramada Inn...A Great Cajun style atmosphere, the food was fresh and the service was excellent, two paws up from grilldoggie!!! It is a little pricey but the food was worth it!

My Great Bud from PA, Fawn, Cruised down for the Memorial day weekend...We discovered some new insights into Corpus.

First...try to find a tee shirt here with Corpus Christi written on it for less then 18 dollars and your lucky...Corpus is not an inexpensive town...they're out for your bucks...guess when your known for Spring Break woo hooo...drunken College preps...with mom/dads credit...they can charge what they like well =oP``` to them!!!! Hi, waving to ya...sorry if you only saw one finger!

Grilldog says phooey to those establishments...So super four paws up and a tail to those who offer a deal...Booters! Market Street Oyster Bar, Moby Dicks is great but you have to go to the Port Arenas to find it hehehe!!!  don't eat BBQ down here...it's bland..still the Branding Iron in Wichita Falls is the best!!

Now if you wander over to the Lexington (well, if you don't know, look it up) Pier 99 is the place to be.  If you want to buy tee shirts this is the place to do it.. plus give yourself about a day to tour the Lexington...and be in good shape!!!!

Ok if you hear Snoopy's is great forget it...they're slow and over priced. I went there twice and you can color me unimpressed.

Sharkey's Downtown offers a nice party, Jimmy Buffett atmosphere, but at a 5 dollar per head cover and 3 dollar drinks, I'll party somewhere else.  But if you want an over priced Meat Market, that's the place and the food was horrible.

BJ's, the place we finally partied and the gang said So -Long to Grilldog as I continued my journey is a hell of an excellent place.   It's a pizza joint and beer hall with brews from all over the world!  The pizza is great, ok it's not New York style, but it was great! The atmosphere was happening! I highly recommend BJ's Their Great!!!

I stayed at the Ramada Inn at the Beach.  It's a nice facility and the staff were friendly! I recommend it and don't for get to as for the sales manager Pam Kim! Tell her Grilldoggie sent ya!!!
