And now the only recipe that I made myself and truly messed up .. here’s the recipe ..
Thai Ice Tea
6 cups water
1 cup Thai T tea leaves
3/4 cup sugar
crushed ice
1 1/2 cups evaporated milk -- or half and half, or if you are a real cream lover, use real cream.
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan, add the tealeaves and remove pan from the heat. Gently stir the tealeaves to submerge them in the water.
Let the tea steep for 5 minutes, or until it turns a brilliant orange and has a strong taste with no bitterness. Pour the tea through a coffee filter or fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Add the sugar to the hot tea and stir well to dissolve completely. Set aside to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until ready to serve, or for up to 1 week. To serve, fill tall glasses with crushed ice, add tea to fill about 3/4 of each glass, then pour about 1/4 cup of evaporated milk or half and half over the ice in each glass. Serve immediately.
I did exactly as u said .. only thing is .. i cant find thai tea .. so i used Lopchu .. which is Darjeeling tea .. u know the usual that we take .. so the color wasn’t orange but slightly maroon-ish .. transparent maroon … filtered it .. added sugar .. cooled .. fridged for 3 days (or was it 4 days ?? I forgot .. it was quite some time ago) .. then served in a crushed ice filled glass with evaporated milk (yes, I found that in the block market).. that part was easy ..
I wont say it tasted bad .. it tasted good .. in a sweet beverage kind of way … and my father liked it (mom doesn’t take sugar, although she tasted because I made it) .. but .. well .. it wasn’t tea !! see .. we are used to raw tea .. we don’t take sugar or milk in it .. and well .. we are quite addicted to tea .. and u can say it is the only thing we are snooty (uh.. ok ) about .. like .. the flavor and the taste has to be perfect .. and we don’t take sugar or milk because they gets in the way … u know .. the flavor .. the making was easy .. the taste was good .. only I thought it was a little bit too sweet .. other wise it was right … sorry may be I was too biased to like it ..
that's ok Mouri, I understand culture differences which is why you won't see me making your dog recipe anytime too soon or eating maggots LOL... yes, it's not your typical tea. Thai tea is something that I think an Indian culture may relish. I do appreciate you trying, and yes it's very sweet. Personally, I like a nice Bejing Green Tea in a Bejing red clay tea pot yum yum
hee hee ... that dog recipe did stir u up ..

...
its not bad .. really .. no not the dog thing .. the tea .. as a sweet cold drink it is very nice and yummy .. but its just not what i expect from tea .. but indeed it is very nice and freashning .. and i m not saying that to oil u up or something .. may be i will try this with cold coffie instead of cold tea !!! .. now THAT could be something i would love !!! ..
Yes, it's very different from regular tea and can be quite an experience if you were expecting regular tea and drank this! It typically goes great with thai food because there's a lot of spices in Thai food and this helps cool the pallet
now that is some idea .. may be i will try this with spicy fast foods that i m so fond of but cant take much because they are so spicy .. it would be a good cold drink !! it tasted cool and soothing .. and a tad freshning too .. so it would work well with them !! u know in bengali it might be called "tea sarbat" or "cha-er sarbat" .. 'cha' means tea .. 'er' is an adjective .. and 'sarbat' is sweet cold drink ... hmm .. the more i think about it .. the more i m getting fond of the idea .. if u forget that it is supposed to be tea .. then it is a hit cold drink .. i love it ..
That's true, don't think of it as tea, call it something else like tea soda LOL or Thai Soda there ya go Thai Soda LOL
hee hee .. we ARE wierd !!!! but u are right .. i will have to try itagain .. i kind of liked it .. althou i didnt wanted to admit it being a biased snob !!! uhh .. there goes my prestiege !!!!
Mouri, if you don't like something please feel free to express it, I like to know how different cultures reacts to different tastes, it helps me understand my art!
hey i did !!! i did said that i didnt like it as tea !! but its fine as cold drink !!!

.. i know u are not afraid of the truth like dare-i-say-the-name-of-one-who-sud-not-b-named ??
u r far from it .. i really liked it .. but not as tea .. as tea it sucks .. but its ok as a cold drink .. althu a little too sweet .. but i never did liked too sweet things .. for example i am in love with ur mango salsa ... but not with the tea thing .. its good .. and i will definitely take it with hot things or too spicy things .. but it is not complete by itself .. u know what i mean ? ,.. not like mango salsa .. that is a dream recipe !!
glad you liked the mango salsa, you know back in Indianapolis my nick name was mango, that was before Grilldog. yes, some names shouldn't be mentioned, how about we just call them the "Dark One" LOL..
