Grilldog, I need Help! Congrats on the cooking show!!! If you have a DVD of it I would Love to see it!!
I've been a fan from PA for years now and loved the recipes I found on your old sight!
The other reason I am writing is I upgraded and bought Porcelain covered cast iron grates for my Weber. I can find directions for porcelain covered steel and for plain cast iron. No care directions for the porcelain covered cast iron. You have any thoughts?
Thanks...
HI Bill. Thanks for visiting our forum hope you stick around we have a lot of fun.. Also thanks for the support...
First as for the DVD's you can go on line at
http://www.grilldog.com and puchase them and we'll ship it out to you. They are very reasonably priced and pretty much just covers my expense.
As for your 2nd question... Here's what I know about Porcelain.. Porcelain enamel is essentially a highly durable glass which, with coloring oxides and other inorganic materials, is fused to metal at extremely high temperatures. It first found its way into the kitchen as a decorative finish for carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and cast iron.
As you may know, Porcelain dishware should be soaked in a basin lined with soft towels. Add warm water and a mild detergent. Some experts recommend using baby shampoo -- it's gentle and doesn't leave a film. Rinse with 1/4 cup mixture of white vinegar and water, and allow to air-dry. Stay away from abrasive scouring powder and steel wool.
For food stains, a foaming denture cleaner may do the trick. Fruit and ink stains respond well to a paste of household salt. For coffee stains, dip a damp cloth in baking soda and scrub the stain.
As you may know Porcelain rusts easily when chipped so be careful with that Grille! It has an extremely poor heat conduct and does easily chip if banged or dropped.
Though porcelain can easily take the temperature and harsh detergents of a dishwasher, Grilldog recommends washing ceramic wares by hand, to prevent accidental damage from other utensils beating against them in the dishwasher. Because of the dense nature of porcelain, discoloration of bare spots can usually be cleaned with detergent and nylon scrubber. Iron pans that are covered with porcelain enamel keep food from reacting with the metal and require more care. They can't take the high heat you can give raw iron pans.
Hope that helps!!! Those are some good Grilldog Tips you can live by!!!
THANX!!! Seems I maybe should have sniffed around a bit for plain cast iron instead of pouncing on the porcalean onesat the Home Depot. I will use a Nylon grill brush on the grates and clean with mild soap.

Mouri,
Oh my goodness you are really very funny. I think Grilldog has a fantastic idea, with a disaster book. You must tell him of all your disasters and he can do a book for you, maybe some of the others can also add some and that could also be added to the book.
I really enjoy your posts, it really is very funny.
