I don’t often “blog” since I have an internet e-News letter, “The Howler” where I report my thoughts and opinions. I also have my forum where I write down my thoughts. However, when something occurs that I just feel my thoughts should be heard or transmitted, my fingers take over and I blog away.

About a year or more ago, one of my “My Space” friends Sunny Anderson had a bit spot on the Food Network as a Guest personality demonstrating “gadgets”. She was also a radio personality and was popular in the New York City area. Through shear hard work and the support of her friends, she landed her own TV show on the Food Network, in fact she has two now, What’s on my plate and Cooking for Real. I actually have a number of internet “friends” who are trying out on the Net Food Network Star show, etc. As well as folks like myself who are personalities with either a Public Access Show, PBS show or just an internet show, with varying degrees of popularity. Which brings me to my discussion.

In July during the airing of Sunny’s episode, Tex-Mex 2-Step she was preparing a beer battered fish taco and said, aloud, on air, I know my guy Grilldog would Grill this! I was more then flattered by that. In our correspondence, Sunny tells me that she likes to thank those who were supporters of hers back before she landed in the Big Time and it was her way of showing her appreciation. She didn’t have to do it, mentioning my name isn’t going to do anything for her career or show, but it was something she did out of a kindred spirit of Food, Fun and Friends.

On the other hand, I’ve about a dozen “internet” friends who are trying out for the “Big Show” on a number of levels, it ranges from the Food Network, to Major international Cook Offs, etc. All attempts to make it Big. In the past few years, (we’ll call them the dirty dozen) have all volunteered and approached me on several occasions about collaborating and featuring them on one of my shows. I’m very willing to do this. In many cases, we even started working on shows together; however, several months into working the shows, these dirty dozens just dropped out and distanced themselves from any discussions or responses that had to do with my show. Personally, I think they felt that as they focused on getting ahead, a little Public Access TV show like Grilldog Presents: Couldn’t really do anything for their star struck eyes.

Of course on the other hand (I’m a dog, I’ve four hands you know), I do have friends that are working towards success in their Foodie pursuits who have stayed with me and we still are working on the potential of a Show together, like my good buddy Bunny Bunns, the Nude Chef and my buddy Chuck Roast Jones in Brady Tx.

Now on my final hand, I’ll make my point. My hats off and a four paws and a tail salute for Sunny for not letting her stardom blind her from her friends. For taking a moment to make a friendly gesture, talk about your random acts of kindness. Personally, I hope to make it big in the Foodie biz some day and I hope that I have a big of a heart as Sunny and remember all of my friends and not distance myself from people just because they can’t do anything for my career. To the Dirty Dozen I give a big Hind leg salute and to my friends that are still with me, a big Grilldog hug and slurpy doggie wet kiss LOL.

After all, my motto really is Food, Fun and Friends and I hope everyone out there that reads this takes a moment and think, what kind of friend they are to each other. Let’s make this a universe where we all realize that we’re in this thing called “life” together.

Sunny Anderson

Starting in April 2008, Food Network will have a bright new face at the table — Sunny Anderson. Sunny will be the newest addition to Food Network's popular 'In the Kitchen' weekend block with her new series, Cooking for Real. With an understanding of the need for uncomplicated dishes with affordable, easy to find ingredients, Sunny offers real food, for real life combining her approach to classic comfort foods along with her passion for unique flavors inspired by her many travels.

Cooking for Real will not be the first time Food Network audiences have seen Sunny Anderson. She debuted on the Network back in 2005 as a special guest on Emeril Live, cooking side by side Chef Emeril Lagasse — an appearance Sunny deemed as her greatest "foodie" moment ever. In 2007, Sunny co-hosted Food Network's series of specials, Gotta Get It, uncovering the latest and greatest food gadgets and gizmos on the market.

In 2003, Sunny started her catering business "Sunny's Delicious Dishes" after years of cooking for her famous friends in the music industry and soon became one of the most sought after caterers in town.
Sunny's passion for food paved the way for a passion with music. While growing up traveling the world as an Army brat, her parents always encouraged her to indulge in the local cuisine. When Sunny joined the Air Force, she continued her trek through the world for culinary finds and soon discovered she had a desire to explore music. Soon enough, she became an award-winning military radio host and news reporter.

Upon finishing her tour of duty with the Air Force, Sunny kept on her broadcast career playing radio host at stations in New Orleans, Montgomery, Detroit, and finally, in New York at hip hop radio powerhouse, HOT 97. Within a year, Vibe Magazine rated her show as one of the top 9 to listen to nationwide and crowned her, "Ruler of the Airwaves." Her radio success landed her guest hosting duties on MTV2, and voice over gigs on television and radio ads for Destiny's Child, LL Cool J, and John Legend.

Sunny also served as Food & Lifestyle editor at Hip Hop Weekly Magazine where she reported on everything celebrity living with her column, "Belly of the Beats," where she interviewed hip hop stars about food, cooking and restaurants they love.

Well, Grilldog has been a internet buddy of Sunny for some time now and wishes her the best of luck on all her shows. Here's a four paws and a tail salute for your success!

How to make your own TV Show

A lot of folks look at me and think it's pretty easy to put on a TV show. I walk though the lines, I ad lib a lot and I goof around while coming up with an entertaining show, yummy food and all in a nice 28.5 minute show... Now I'm here to let you know what you'll need to do if you want to have your own TV show, at least on public access TV which is the easiest... Here's the basic's, however, please keep in mind that other then turning the camera on and off, I do all of this myself.

Note: It is the producer's responsibility to decide how many people will be involved in the production to successfully complete the program.

PRODUCER - "The Organizer" This person puts the business end of the program together. Gets legal rights to scripts, hires and fires the director and crew (I can't really see me firing myself and myself and self), arranges permits and clearances for shoots, is liaison with guest and talent, arranges editing time and controls distribution. Has final responsibility for the program and final word on the content.

DIRECTOR - This person decides which camera angles to take and directs crew members to perform tasks at his/her command. Usually has some say in selection of the crew. Rehearses talent, selects camera angles, sets the mood of scene lighting, special effects, etc. Determines if a "take" is acceptable. (I'm usually just happy if the camera and sound is on when I'm performing)

FLOOR DIRECTOR - The floor director is an extension of the director in the control room. This person directs the host and guests on the studio floor including cueing talent, keeping pace of the program, handles problems that occur before and during taping. Keeps communication flowing between the director in the control room and the studio floor. This person also is responsible for safety on the studio floor. (I use to be pretty lax here with just initial direction until one of my guests one day decided it would be funny to take a bucket I was using for trash and dump it on my head over the food... I'm more on the look out now)

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR (TD) - The Technical Director obeys the directions of the Director to actually push buttons and fader bars on the video switcher. The TD is ultimately responsible for the overall smooth technical operations of all equipment. The TD should check a checklist prior to each shoot. (We don't have these, however, I do it all after filming in my production studio)

AUDIO OPERATOR - This person operates all audio related devices including the audio mixing board, microphones, cassette deck, videotaped audio sources and the compact disc player. Works closely with the floor director on placement of microphone, calibrates all audio sources going through the audio mixing board and properly adjusts levels during the taping. (Again, I'm happy if the mic is turned on)

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (AD) - This person assist the director in keeping track of the remaining segment times during the taping of the production. May write rough script drafts or interview questions. Gets releases signed. Confirms each crew member's job is going smoothly. If not, may asking others to assist in smoothing out the problem. Occasionally will continue to check on the crew readiness status and report such status to the director. Performs other duties as assigned. (I've asked people to help, I asked one crew member during road kill 1 to keep an eye on the free raffle items while I was inside, I came out and they were gone and she was still sitting there. I asked what happened to these, she said someone walked by picked them up and just walked away. I said why didn't you do anything I asked you to watch them, she said she did watch them! I know better now)

CAMERA OPERATOR - This person is responsible for the set-up, operation and proper stowage of the camera and camera cables. Should collaborate with the Director prior to the start of the shoot to understand what will happen in the scene and the effect the director wants to achieve. Should communicate any foreseeable logistical problems to the Director. Listens to the director. Relays camera problems which may occur during the shoot to the floor director. (Grillpup does a good job at this, I appreciate her efforts, I've used other people when she's not around... They say yes, I'm squared off, I go and look at the tape and all I see are blue sky's and the top of my head!)

VTR OPERATOR - This person records the program. Starts and stops the VTR on the director's command. Monitors video and audio levels and verifies the actual recording on the VTR. Cues and plays roll-ins when applicable. Keeps track of time in the absence of the AD. Labels tapes and tape cases prior to the shoot. (we don't do this, I do it all with my production studio after filming, a lot of the timing is all done in my head during the shoot or worked out ahead of time since I know how long it takes to make stuff)

CHARACTER GENERATOR OPERATOR (CG) - This person types titles and credits in to the computer per the Director's request. Verifies the accuracy of the spelling of the host's, guest's and crew's names and their professional titles. Uses business cards for verification when possible. Keeps a written list of which information appears on each CG page. ( I do this on my production studio too).

Now add that I write the show, I develop the recipes for the show, I perform on the show, I edit the show including animation, special video effects and special sound effects, I even make sound effects (I'm great with belches).

Now that's all you have to do! LOL... I didn't even talk about marketing or distribution sigh!!! I need a beer.

I'll try and report my experiences to everyone.

I did have quite a scare the other day, I was floating about in my amniotic fluid with something poked through the sky. It had a pointy motif so I swam over too it... I wasn't afraid, I guess I just embrass my fears and go towards action. I must have inherited that from Dad...

Then I felt this suctioning action and my swimming pool started to drain, but just a little bit so I wasn't alarmed. I just thank God that Mommie doesn't smoke or drink nor eat any of Dad's Hot and Spicy foods, i don't know if my little system could take it... maybe later.
That's all for now, I'm going to nap. zzzzzzzzz

He wants me to find blue shorts to match his, mind you they'll have to be baby shorts that can go over a diaper. A white shirt with Juniordog where G'dog's shirt says Grilldog Present, and I'm to sew a red cape to the back of it. He also thought we'd get red boots, but I put my foot down on that one and said Juniordog can wear red socks. There's a hat involved too, but I just can't picture that yet. My poor baby!

I'll need plenty of beer once our little doggie is born, that's for sure! :beersign:

I'm the first one to bark at email abuse and sending internet hoaxes but this is not a hoax. Normally, you'll only get 1 email a month from me regarding the Howler, Unless your safety is threatened! The San Diego Police and FBI sent this warning out so folks in Southern California can be on alert from June 17-20. The PDF file also contains some practical safety concerns and practices that folks in other towns could find interesting and should consider following.

The attached Situation Intelligence Report from the San Diego Police Department and the FBI concerning the upcoming BIO International Convention to be held in San Diego June 17 - 20, is for information purposes only. All have been asked to help provide widest possible distribution. There have been no specific threats made against businesses or individuals.
In addition to background on the convention, the report includes interesting items about Activist Ideology and Extremist Groups.
If possible, avoid the area and potential demonstrations and demonstrators.
