Grilldog Presents: The Howler May 2010

Filed under: Howler — Grilldog @ 11:17 am

First of all, I’m sorry everyone for Last Month’s FU’s and WTF’s etc

I had rabies, the doctors gave me a bunch of distemper shots and I’m feeling better but not quite back to my megalomaniac self, yet! Which is why the Howler is late again, but not as late!

Personally, I think we live in a drug induced society, why do you need to buy illicit drugs when most doctors will zombie you out for free, or perhaps at least a 20$ co-pay, But I digress. I also want to say I’m sorry for all of those great people I know in San Diego that I didn’t have an opportunity to mention, especially, Grill Cat & Grill Pickle.  I must say that after arriving here in Texas everyone’s favorite episode seems to be the Road Kill Episodes.  They were all hoping that Grill Cat was still around for future episodes!

Grilldog TV!!!!

Special news Bulletin “Grilldog TV” is up and Running thanks to my friends up in San Francisco, the Injured Workers Group.  Now every Friday Night from 8pm-9pm Pacific at http://injuredworkerstelevision.com/ You can watch another exciting episode or two of Grilldog presents.

 NOTICE to all CAT/PAT stations!!!

Plus Great news for you all at the Public Access Stations.  I know that Peg Media can be a problem to download from and they also started to charge you a fee for downloading shows.  Therefore, I’m starting to put all of my episodes in .mov format on my FTP site. Therefore, if you want to download any of my episodes for free, just let me know and I’ll send you the log in information and password so that you can down load each episode at your convenience.

Road Kill III: Battle for Supremacy update…

First, I’d like to say I’m sorry to the Traeger corporation, T&H Prime Meats and Sausages, NadaRed Vodka, Party Time Liquors, in El Cajon, Twin Oaks Winery and Chef Billy “The Kid” for taking so long to edit and get the Road Kill III Battle for Supremacy edited and aired.  I promise I’m going to be more on top of things from now on. The distemper shots are working. Maybe…. LOL. The behind the scenes episode just didn’t come out well at all and did nothing for my show. My back up drive died and I lost a lot of special effects and I had to have my computer tuned up and Jr Dog kept wanting to go to Chuck E Cheese. Therefore, I canned the entire idea and I’m now working on the real show (Chuck E Cheese has free Wi Fi LOL). It’s shaping up nicely.  I’m hoping that will be ready around Mid May.

Great News in Austin - The Weirdness is on the uprise exponentially.

Starting in June Channel Austin is not just going to be airing the entire series of Grilldog Presents on 3 stations but they are going to be streaming them too.  Just one more opportunity for everyone to join in the Food, Fun and Friends of Grilldog Presents! Plus, we even have Austin Sponsors now, i.e. Pflugerville Propane, Black Dog Pub and Marisco’s Seafood Restaurant.  But most impressively, BBQ’s Galore!

Thoughts and Wishes for the Summer

I think everyone has their favorite time of year.  I think mine must be the summer.  I love the sun and perhaps it even goes back to my youth when the summer meant visiting relatives, playing on the Jersey Shore and not having any worries at all.  Summer is also typically the time for vacation.  I remember for the longest time my job had me traveling all over the world.  I looked forward to my summer vacation when I would take a week or two off and just stay home (the one place in the world that I seemed to never be).  Just sitting back in my hammock or pool with a cool adult liquid libation, my iTunes on or the 61 inch HD Surround Sound TV and just relaxing.  Now it seems that when I go on vacation (somewhere other then my own backyard) I have to schedule it from Friday to Friday as my week (and a day) off, just so that I had two days to recover before going back to work.  I don’t think I can say what the best vacation is for anyone.  Nor can I provide profound Grilldog Wisdom for you.  Basically, I believe a vacation should be the time when you do what you need to do in order to shrug off the responsibilities of the world and dig down into that lost child in your soul and do what ever it is you need to do for yourself.  I think, often times, we think of ourselves last.  I think even those people who are selfish and self centered even think of themselves last.  Let’s face it, if you are cranky, think the world owes you and just sit in a corner waiting to snap and snarl at someone just to get your own way, you are not taking care of yourself.  Therefore, this summer, take a moment with Grilldog and the Grillpack of friends and do something for yourself and relax.

Life @ 50

I was playing trivia with Grillpup at Wings n More off of Howard one Friday Night in Austin when one of the questions was, who made the rubber duckie song famous, Oscar the Grouch, Burt, Ernie, Big Bird or Kermit.  Well, everyone knows it was Ernie who use to sing the rubber duckie song in the tub, or so I thought everyone knew that.  Not only did Grillpup give me the “eye” for knowing the answer so easily, she actually cringed when I started to sing the song.  Well, I’m over 50 and in some places I can actually get discounts for being over 50 (I’m still not sure about my feelings on that one!).  But I digress.  After that interlude I began to reflect on back where I was during those adolescent years when I learned the rubber duckie song (also remember, I remember a time when there was no Children’s Television Network or Sesame Street which spawned CTN). I remembered being in classes and discussing what the world would be like in the year 2000.  Would we be living in the sky like George Jetson? Flying around in space cars (who would have thought we’d be riding around in “Smart Cars” Cars the size of match box cars, aren’t smart, they are just small).  However, I remember thinking and pondering what I would be like in the year 2000.  OMG I’d be 40 years old, surely dead, in a wheel chair, staggering around with a cane or at least in a nursing home with bad nurses that stole all my stuff while I drooled away in a dark corner with tubes stuck in me in God Only knows places (of which I didn’t want to think about).  After all, at that time (back in the mid 60’s) everyone I knew that was 40, really looked old. They were balding, dead, in a wheel chair, staggering around with a cane pissing myself or at least in a nursing home with bad nurses stealing all my stuff while I drooled away in a dark corner with tubes stuck in me in God Only knows places and wishing that either a relative would make that rare stop and say howdie and/or that God would just get it over and done with pronto.  However, with modern medicine we all now (for the most part) still have our own teeth, can get new hair, laser corrected eyesight and even mechanical limbs.  Thanks to modern medicine we can get it sucked out and sucked in, again and again. Now a-days, for the most part, most of us around 50 only sit in a corner, drool and piss on ourselves when we’ve had too much to drink, we may stagger with a cane but that’s typically the bar stool, and the only ones that steal from us while we lay helpless are politicians like in California.

Therefore, being 50 isn’t what I thought it would be, in some ways it’s better.  I never thought I’d have a 17th month old boy to cherish, nor have traveled as much as I have or many of a number of things too long to list.  Most of all, I didn’t think I’d be internationally known, nor have my name (or stage name at least) mentioned on national TV.  Of course on the down side of all of that, I have High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Heart Disease, Hypertension, the onset of Diabetes, hair loss, sleep apneia and a few other ailments thrown in the batch for good measure.  However, I’m working on all of these, as well as hydrating my cat every three days (that’s sticking a needle in her and pumping in saline for about 5 minutes). At least I’m not in a wheelchair, still have most of my hair, all of my teeth, even one wisdom tooth left, I don’t need any physical support, although I have been known to drool from time to time and about the only one that steals from me when I’m not looking is my toddler who must think that if Good ole Dad is eating or drinking something, it should be his too!  I will continue my snippets of views @ 50 in future Howlers, so keep an eye or ear open!

Grilldog’s Progress Report for May.

Not sure how May is going to play out here.  People are gearing up for Cinco de Mayo but it’s not as big here as it is in Southern California.  I’ve hooked up with BBQ Galore for a show and I’m going to be part of their big Grand Opening of a new store on May 22nd.  Basically, I get to sit around under a big banner and hope people by my recipe book and/or DVD’s LOL… After all I am on “As Seen on TV”, LOL. The kind folks at NadaRed are shipping me some Vodka so on May 8th we are going to be shooting an episode at BBQ Galore in which we use vodka in all of the recipes and there might even be a Martini episode in the near future as well.  However, because of all of my above mentioned ailments the doc wants me to lose about 20 pounds. However, considering all that is wrong with me I’m sure he’s only trying to make the deal a bit lighter for the pallbearers! Taking the Docs advice I’m working on losing weight, even completely cut out liquor from my diet, not even a light beer goes past my lips. In fact I haven’t had a drink since 4-11 now that’s information for you! No, I’m not sitting in an AA meeting, nor am I on antabuse, I’m just sitting here, actually walking all over the place and doing what I can to live just a tad longer.  Just think of all those ailments I don’t have yet that could possibly come! I don’t want to die now and miss out on all of that fun. In short, for May, I’ve a show on the 8th and an appearance on the 22nd.  On the 8th I’ll be at the BBQ Galore on Brodie Street in Austin and I’ll have to post the location of the new store on the 22nd as soon as I have it.  Otherwise, I’m just trying to send out another 4 pack of episodes to the stations around the world that broadcast the Food, Fun and Friends of Grilldog to all of their communities.

Jr Dog Update

Jr Dog is growing up nicely.  He is wearing shoes now, I think they are actually Crocs, sort of shoes with holes in them.  Not much good in the rain.  Jr Dog seems to like it here in Austin.  We live next to a playground with lots of things he can play on, we take him to Chuck E Cheese and he loves the little Carousel (that’s a Merry-Go-Round LOL).  He also is becoming quite the picky eater. He seems to prefer his Dad’s cooking to anything else.  It’s like if he sees me make it and eat it then he wants it too.  I made ice cream once and now he won’t eat any other ice cream except the stuff I make (well mine is much better LOL). I post a lot of pictures of him on my facebook account.  He’s just too cute to miss out on so feel free to take a peek and leave an adorable comment!

Latest shows Update

I finally, almost finished Road Kill III part one so I can put out my next 4 pack of episodes.  Therefore, be on the look out for those in May.  Plus, by the end of May I’ll have part II completed so you can see who won the ultimate Iron Chef Competition, Head Chef Billy “The Kid” from the Traeger Corporation or Good ole Grilldog.  I do have to thank all the folks that donated supplies to that show in order to make it all happen, i.e. Traeger Wood Pellet Grills, T&H Prime Meats and Sausages in San Marcus, Party Time Liqueur in El Cajon, Joe’s Pizza in Clairmont Mesa, the World Market, Twin Oaks Winery, and Jude Libermann and Lee Books.  Plus special thanks to my Key Grip Mike, whose help is invaluable.

Our first show filmed in Austin at the Black Dog Pub won’t be edited and ready for viewing till some time in June.  Grilldog makes stuffed Swordfish and creamy Midori/kiwi sorbet.

future filming

 Now Available

Nothing new is going to be available till the end of May.  I will have a new 4 episode disc which shall feature:

#56 Bloody Sunday - Grilldog makes a variety of crazy Bloody Mary’s, actually it’s more of an around the world trip.

#57 Food of the Gods II: Truffles, this is a tribute to the Late Chef Nancy Belaise who passed away last year and was an inspiration to Grilldog and all that knew her.  She is missed.

#58 Grilldog’s 50th Birthday Grilldog Grills up a batch of recipes, BBQ and BBQ accompaniments, a must see and tasty episode.

and

#59 Road Kill III: Battle for Supremacy - In Part 1 Grilldog and Billy start the prep on all 9 of their meats, i.e. Ostrich Fillets, Buffalo Tri Tips, Elk Steaks, Antelope Flank Steaks, Wild Boar Butt, Alligator Sirloin, Rocky Mt Oysters, Rabbit and Big Horn Sheep. In this episode Grilldog demonstrates and completes the Wild Boar Butt, Antelope Flank Steaks, Alligator Sirloin and Big Horn Sheep. In Part 2, Grilldog will demonstrate the remaining recipes as well as will find out the winner of the competition.  Honestly, two cooks making 9 recipes each in a cook off, is a lot of hard work, but it was a lot of fun too.

A Good Grilldog Tip To Live By for May:

Just remember that when you point your finger, 4 fingers point back at yourself.  Don’t be quick to judge.  Always ask yourself if what you are doing is really worthwhile.  Remember, not making a decision IS a decision.  Also, Mushrooms grow best in poop and in dark places, people don’t.

Grilldog’s 2nd Recipe book Grilldog Turns 50 celebrates the first 50 episodes of Grilldog Presents.  We are a bit behind but it’s going great. It’s not just going to feature ALL the recipes and tips of the 1st 50 episodes, it’s also going to have behind the scenes gossip of each show as well as new pictures.  Plus, they’ll be a pick or two of each show’s handwritten scripts! Originals by Grilldog, detailing his plans for the episode.  Certainly a collector’s edition!  Actually, I haven’t done crap with the book in about 9 months, but it’s on my to-do list, as well as looking for my to-do list.

 GRILLDOG’S 2nd RECIPE BOOK “Grilldog’s 50th Celebration”

is delayed!!

I’m still working on my second book, Grilldog’s 50th Celebration.  This book is not just a synopsis and story guide to my first 50 episodes, it also contains all the recipes from all of the 1st 50 episodes.  I know everyone has been asking for this so it’s on the way.  I was hoping to complete the book and publish it on my birthday 10/18 when I turn 50, however, between work and traveling I think I’ll only have the draft completed by then.  I’ll still have to add the photos and edit the text and add the table of contents etc.

Public Access Stations can now download a complete episode, I don’t have to spend all of my time burning and mailing DVD’s any more! Unfortunately, they are not charging 75 cents for stations to down load my show.  Please down load them, it’s worth 75 cents, isn’t it?

That’s right the great folks at Pegmedia.org maintains a website for producers and public access stations alike.  It’s free.  All I have to do now is upload a Mpeg file to their sites and any of my shows can be downloaded from there.  So if you can’t get Grilldog Presents on your local Public Access TV.
