Grilldog Presents: The Howler, November 2007, Edition 17
November’s - Howl’n Headline News
Grilldog’s thoughts on the San Diego Fire Storm.
I’d like to start this month’s Howler News with a lot less frivolity then our usual mad cap buffoonery and our down right lampooning. As you all may or may not know, Good Ole Grilldog’s base camp is in San Diego, California. Unless you are brain dead or live in a hole, you’ll know that we just came out of a Firestorm that threatened to destroy all of Southern California. If the Santa Anna winds had not subsided, I’d hate to think about where I’d be typing this article from. Good ole Grilldog was among the lucky ones. The fire got to within 5 miles from my house when the winds shifted and allowed the fire fighters to fight off the fire and divert it to a less inhabited area. However, there was so much loss and destruction that I don’t know if we’ll ever totally recover from it. I know I still had scars from the last fire, four years ago to the day. The last one came within 3 miles of my house! Homes were lost, life was taken, dreams trampled. If that’s not bad enough, many of the fires were actually Arson! I don’t think there’s a place deep enough in Hell for those people. Yes, it was more than one person doing it. The sadness and grief makes you ponder people’s motives at time. Depression sets in and you start to wonder, is life really worth all of this. However, if you open your eyes you can see more inspiration and desperation.
The firefighters, the volunteers, the businesses and organizations that all mobilized immediately to help those who were being evacuated. It wasn’t just people, there were pets, live stock, including Horses Southern Californians all chipped in and worked together with each other. Neighbors who may have never even said a word to each other, dropped what they were doing and joined in an effort to struggle together to withstand and defend odds that for the first 2 days were reported too over powering to stop!
However, that did not stop everyone from chipping together, holding down the fort and making sure that neighbors who may live 50 miles from each other, were safe and secure and looked after. Folks didn’t care what type of car someone drove, or how they drove, or what color hair (if they had any at all) they had, nor how many nose rings they had, nor if their stomach was too large or if their outfit just didn’t match, people let down their petty complaints and joined and hands with the realization that we are all in this together. Even Major organizations, Wal Mart, Costco, Sam’s Club, REI, and more all donated tons of supplies to the evacuation centers!
The love and strength that poured out those few terrible days in October, for me, far overshadows the ½ dozen bastards or more (that includes the little kid that accidentally started one of the fires by “Playing with Matches” that killed 7 people, wounded 15 others and destroyed millions of dollars of property and land) that were responsible for starting the Firestorm. My only hope is that we can all grow and learn from this and realize that it doesn’t take a tragedy like this to make us realize that we are all flying through space around the same Sun and with the same goals and on the same planet. I just hope that some day, that out pouring of love and just neighborly do gooding can take place 365 days a year. Of my philosophy, Food, Fun and Friends, I feel Friends is the most important. Let’s all remember that!
NEWS FLASH!!! Just In Time for the Holidays…
Looking for that special gift for the holidays? Know someone that you think has everything? Well, how about a GRILLDOG Presents: 4 Episode DVD?...
NO, not just a Single episode or even a double episode DVD but what about 2 hours of non stop entertainment?! That’s right. The new DVDs that are in production are going to have 3-4 episodes (depending on size) per DVD. We are still in the Development phase and won’t have the finished product ready for posting and sale until Nov 15th. However, Grilldog wanted to give everyone a heads up on the project! By December 25th, we’ll have 29 shows produced. They ALL will be available. Now that’s a Stocking stuffer. I understand for a FULL set, they’ll be a special discount Price! WOW… So set your PDA for Nov 15th and check out for the new DVD Sets.
I just finished a trial DVD of the first 4 episodes, How to Grille, Lotsa Pasta, Sushi and Portobello Mushrooms. The 4 DVD set came out very nicely so we’re all psyched and ready for the production phase of the remaining DVDs… The two shows we are still working on are Episode 28 Take Out II Go and Kook’n for Kidney’s. Unfortunately because of the size of the files, I’ve got to increase my hardware (don’t you just hate it when your hardware isn’t big enough to do the job!). However, I’ve got my hands wrapped around the situation and will have it under control shortly.
Apple a day, didn’t keep the Doctor Away…
I love the Apple Computer products. Now, I know you hear people in the PC world poo pooing the Apple products and people from the Apple world poo pooing the PC products. However, people who actually know both systems Prefer the Apple, it is superior. I have a duel processor G5 Apple that I use to edit all my shows. It’s super fast and I just love it. However, recently, it died, kaput, started pushing up daisies even. I did everything to try and resuscitate it but to on avail so I had to get service performed on it. The Mac technicians were really nice. The only problem was that their stores are small so they can’t handle too many projects at once. The Mission Valley Apple Store was over booked so I had to drive out to UTC.
There, we discovered what the problem was. The Mac G5 duel processors were so powerful that at the time, the fans weren’t strong enough to cool them down so Apple had the bright idea to develop a cooling system with antifreeze flowing through it. Occasionally the tubes break and coolant flows all over the circuit boards. WTF! Now let me tell you what happens when your circuit boards have coolant cascading down them. They literally Fry, they pretty much melt like a Hershey bar on a Tijuana grille. Thankfully, Apple was aware of this possibility so they put the memory circuits at the top of the computer so the only things that could get damaged were….the Logic Board, both Processors, the Power Supply and parts of the enclosures. Ain’t that sweet? However, they did repair it under warranty but it took a week and although they were supposed to call me when the work was completed, no one did. So, production on my show was halted for about 1 week and a half.
Archive File, just for giggles:
In June of 2007 Grilldog ran a Cooking Contest:
The first three people that sampled 10 of his recipes from his cooking book and posted a review of the finished product would win a Free, Gold plated, Personalized, laser Etched 2 Episode DVD of Their Choosing. Minxy in So Africa won and was delighted, Ursula in So Africa won and was delighted, and Mouri, who was the first to receive her DVD, well
#3 Mouri: Future echos… Grilldog Howler Date 2010 a Space Oddity: Mouri, having received her winning DVD back in August of 2007, still, has not watched it. I started keeping a database of excuses back in September of 2007, however, because of the size of the file, it crashed my hard drive.

Grilldog Narrates and shows us a number of his favorite bloopers and other shots that just couldn’t cut it, actually, they did cut it. Plus a couple of his favorite moments from the 1st 6 episodes. Behind the Scenes: Grilldog was way behind in production due to the Christmas Holidays and so he needed to get a quick film out and didn’t have time to plan a real show… hey, don’t give me the hind leg salute, I’m sure the big network shows do that all the time
Filming in November!
Kooking for Kidneys: In this episode, Good ole Grilldog has been working closely with a retired professional Chef… Chef Nancy. You can meet Chef Nancy on my forum at . Chef Nancy and many of my associates at suffer from Kidney Disease. Many times they share with me the foods they are allowed to eat and I help to develop different ways they can prepare them so they are not always eating the same thing. So on November 3rd, we’re going to be filming Kooking for Kidneys at the Grilldog abode in El Cajon…
Contact good ole Grilldog if you’re interested in helping out. We’ll be making -
Laarb,
Chicken with a boysenberry sauce and
a special Non-Alcoholic drink by G-Man himself!
The foods we are preparing are all designed for folks who are in the Pre-dialysis stage of Kidney Disease. The secret word for the show is Kidney and you’ll get to throw soft gooey Kidney beans at Grilldog…it was at their request.
The Road Kill Show: On November, 10th. This is a Top Secret Project and only a few of the Grillpack will attend. The Road Kill Show is shaping up nicely. So far, we’ll be filming the food part of the show on January 12th at Hacienda de las Rosas Horse Farm and Winery. The folks at la Cook-a Rack-a Ltd in New York will be sending me 20 Taco Racks to Give Away as Door prizes. Plus, it’ll be the first show that Grilldog does with a Co-Host! Since it’s William’s (proprietor of the Winery) Birthday, they’ll be a Birthday theme going on. Plus tons of things that are still in the planning session. On Nov. 11th, Grilldog’s Co-Host, Grill Cat will be arriving in San Diego for a “Closed Set” session with Grillpup, Billdog and Grill Sunshine, in an undisclosed location in Chula Vista
Future Events!
The ALL-NEW Grilldog show, Starring Good ole Grilldog, his Grillpack of Friends with Grillpup! Now just what is this all about? Well, all I’m a liberty to say is that the Kidney filming is the last filming in 2007 that Grilldog currently has planned. After that he’ll put together another Take Out Episode based on out takes from shows between Episode 12 and 26. Then starting with the Road Kill Show in January, Grilldog is going with a new format, new surprises and a Whole NEW LOOK! OMG! But that’s all I can say!
Grilldog Sighting:
Universal Studio Hollywood: Grilldog ran up to Huntington Beach for an Alumni Reunion and spent some time at good ole Universal Studio’s. Some day, Grilldog was overheard saying, I’ll be on the other side of this lot!
The Elks Lodge in El Cajon Grilldog loves to hang out for Taco Saturdays at Elks Lodge 1812. Plus they had a Jimmy Buffett type party.
Mr D’s in Chula Vista! The former owner of Goodies in El Cajon has opened a new pub in Chula Vista called Mr. D’s. So on October 18th, Grilldog’s Grillpack of friends threw a GREAT big Birthday Party! It was a lot of fun… Thanks gang!
Grilldog’s Four Paws and a Tail Salutes! This months Four Paws and a Tail Salute goes to…
The Biggest four paws and a tail salutes go to the volunteers and firefighters who all mobilized to save Southern California from the most devastating firestorm in our history… Thanks all
This month’s Four Paws and a Tail Salute also, goes to Eddie Glazer, Waiter at Red Robin in UTC. Red Robin sent Good ole Grilldog a Birthday certificate for a free burger, so you know Grilldog was there. They had a few mishaps in the kitchen and my burger was a bit late. However, I wasn’t concerned, because Eddie made all the difference with the most excellent customer service I’ve seen in a heck of a long time. Thanks Eddie!
Grilldog’s Hind Leg Salutes!
First, The Biggest and wettest Hind Leg Salutes go to the BASTARDS that started the San Diego Fires Last Month. I hear one of them got caught starting one of the fires, jumped in his car and tried to ram the officers with it. Thank God, the officers shot him Dead… I’m sure he’s enjoying some flames now!
oh and one kid was playing with matches! My butt he was… the sicko…
Next: 8 dollar beers at Universal Studio Hollywood
What’s up with that, I think they are trying to get everyone sober.
Next: Lawless Pub on Main Street in El Cajon. Now, it’s certainly rare for an establishment to receive the lambasting and utter full throttle hindleg salute as Grilldog gave Lawless’s Irish Pub on Main Street in El Cajon last month. Therefore, in all fairness, Good ole Grilldog decided to visit the pub once again on a clandestine, secret mission, under the cover of Day Light, to see if they’ve changed their ways.
First, I’m happy to report that they succumbed to the tail thrashing Hind Leg salute regarding their 10 dollar pitchers of domestic beers. Not sure if it was because of Grilldog’s howling, every patron that entered the pub, or the other local pub owners that just basically told them they were idiots. However, they now have beer specials that equal to other pubs in the area. That being said. The quality of food continues to digress to un-edibleness. The portions are getting smaller and the quality of the food getting less and less. Plus, if you are a cook and/or a server and your customer orders a chicken quesadilla (or any tortilla style food) it should not be served BLACK! OMG, this thing was so black, and crusty it was unbelievable, they actually had the audacity to ask me if everything was all right. I’m surprised it wasn’t on fire it was so scorched. I’ve even spoken with other patrons who have frequently lawless in the pass month and they concur with my findings and would like me to add that they find the new owner a rude and selfish character. It appears that he is typically understaffed and when there is a crowd, he ignores everyone and sits behind his laptop while customers are waiting to be served! Even more unnerving is that when asked a question, he seems unbridled to the customers inquiries and aloft to serving his patrons. Rumors around the town is that they applied for a liquor license. The owner feels that this is his only hope to salvage a dwindling business (perhaps he should try, fair prices, good food and customer service - what a novel concept!). I guess he feels the drunker his patrons are the less likely they’ll be able to taste the lousy food or comprehend their inflated prices. OH Well, this place seems destined for Grilldog’s Hind Leg Salute of the year! Keep up the good work guys, I love someone to bite at.
In Next Month’s News.
The latest updates on filming, more on the road kill, Billdog says he is going to be in it…. This is going to be crazy!

1/4 cup soy sauce
1 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup coconut Milk — unsweetened Thai
1/4 cup cilantro — fresh
In a small heavy saucepan, heat oil. Add onion, garlic, hot pepper flakes, and cumin. Sauté about 10 minutes till onion and garlic are soft. Stir in lime juice and soy sauce. Gradually stir in peanut butter and then coconut milk until smooth. Cook, stirring, until hot, about 5 minutes. stir in cilantro just before serving.
Serving Ideas: The sky’s the limit NOTES : I’ve been told…on steak, chicken, as a Sandwich, on apples, bananas, on your finger, as a sex aide (I didn’t ask for details), on hamburgers, hotdogs, someone even feed it to a dog with the dogs medicine hidden inside!
